And @axisrobotics has been exploring a different approach. Its recent research describes a lightweight proxy model that looks at trajectories based on their usefulness to the current model and the additional behavioural coverage they provide. Simply put, you can decide which data is actually helping the model learn something it doesn’t already know. You need systems that understand what data is valuable. And this is where I see an interesting connection to @openroboto too. AXIS takes a simulation first approach. You can control a simulated robot directly from your browser and perform tasks such as moving objects, opening drawers or placing items. Every valid run creates a trajectory. And a trajectory isn’t just a video of what happened. It records things like robot joint states, object poses, control actions and task information over time. That matters because the model needs to learn the relationship between an action and the physical state of the environment. AXIS then takes these demonstrations further. The trajectories can go through cleaning and refinement before being replayed in an IsaacSim-based backend, where they can be expanded with photorealistic and domain-randomized variations. So one human demonstration can become much more useful training material. The bigger idea here is access. Instead of making robot data collection dependent on specialized hardware, expensive setups and trained operators everywhere, AXIS moves a major part of the process into the browser. And this connects nicely with @openroboto, which is also pushing robotics intelligence into a more open environment through public model competitions and on-chain submissions.
