What did X open-source?
On 13 August 2026 X put the code behind the For You feed on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 licence. It carries home-mixer, which assembles and ranks the timeline, the parameter file holding the weight every action is worth, and the visibility filters that decide what quietly gets folded away.
How does the For You algorithm rank posts?
Three stages. It gathers candidates from the people you follow and from what its models think you would want to see anyway. A Grok-based ranker then scores every candidate for what you are likely to do with it, and the published weights are what turn those predictions into one number. Whatever survives that goes past the visibility filters last.
How much is each action worth on X?
Somebody copying your link is 20. A reply is 5, a quote is 5, a share by DM is 5. A follow is 4, a repost is 1, and a like is 0.5. So one reply moves you as far as ten likes do, and a reply between two people who follow each other lands at 20.
What hurts your reach the most?
The punishments dwarf anything you can earn. A report is −234, a mute is −58.8, a not interested is −43.2, a block is −31.2. One report costs more than four hundred likes make back, which makes not being annoying the cheapest reach on the list.
Why do posts with links get less reach?
Opening your link scores 0.2. Copying it to send to somebody scores 20. The feed pays a hundred times more for the link that gets passed on than for the one that gets clicked, so a post whose only job is to send people away earns almost nothing while it does it.
Does posting more often help?
Not the way most people assume. Every post of yours after the first one in a given feed is halved, and it keeps halving down to a quarter. Three posts inside half an hour mostly compete with each other.
Am I shadowbanned on X?
X now shows whether a label has been applied to an account, but that page went to a pilot group and most people are not in it. What gets called a shadowban is the visibility filters, and those are in the open code now. This scan runs your last posts against the same checks and names the ones that fire, with a link into the repo for each.
How do you get into For You?
Write posts people answer. The ranker pays ten times more for a reply than for a like, and another 20 for a link somebody copies to send on, so the whole game is being worth responding to. Then answer the people who answered you, because a reply between mutuals is the best paid thing on the entire list.
What does the scan need from me?
A public handle. It reads posts anybody can already see, so it never asks for access to your X account and it cannot post anything as you. You sign in to unfair.so once and the scan itself is free.
